Jezebel Writers Show Their Idiocy
The blogging world is all aflutter today because of an interview that two of the editors from Jezebel, Tracie Egan and Moe Tkacik, did for Lizz Winstead and her show “Thinking and Drinking“. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Jezebel, it’s a very popular blog that is basically about pop culture. They have articles regarding other issues, such as politics, religion, lots of sex articles, etc. but even in these cases, it still manages to come off like celebrity gossip.
The interview as a whole contains some of the most jaw-droppingly ignorant comments that I’ve heard recently. Here’s a few tidbits. First, on going home with total strangers:
Tracie: “People are always saying it’s not safe to go home with strange men, blah, blah blah, like Mr. Goodbar. Whatever.”
Moe: “What’s gonna happen?’
Lizz (Interviewer): “You could get raped.”
Moe: “That’s happening too, but you live through that.”
Nice. So that’s nothing to really worry about, right? So the rape topic continues on and really goes downhill from there and leads to this wonderful discourse:
You haven’t been raped, because you’re so freaking clever! You can barely make a coherent sentence! Yes… I’m sure that is why you haven’t been raped. So anyway, some are arguing that this astounding lack of self-control was due primarily to the fact that they were drunk, which is pretty obvious. But unless you are falling-down, speech-slurring drunk, you don’t spout utter nonsense. In fact, most people begin actually telling how they really feel about things once they get tipsy. So I don’t buy that explanation.
So here’s where I weigh in on this. If it was just two idiots from some no-name blog, I wouldn’t give it two seconds worth of thought. But because these are such high-profile bloggers, who have managed to cultivate a very strong following of people who take in their advice and opinions, I have to call them out for the morons they appear to be here. Maybe they are just self-absorbed or maybe they are just as stupid as they sound in this video. Who knows. But at the very least, I’m doing my part to raise the visibility of this interview so that people can get a good idea of who they are taking advice from.
