Just wanted to fill everyone in on what is going on with the store. So far… nothing. Lawyers have been hired, discussions have begun, but as to where this is all going to end up, no news yet.

To give a little more background, the reason was that they claim we were improperly issued a business license. The Chief Marshall said that we didn’t carry enough video to be an ‘Adult Video Store’, but the ‘Adult Bookstore’ regulation uses the term ‘merchandise’. And since we carry ‘merchandise’, they cited us as an adult bookstore operating in a non-adult-zoned area, even though books only make up a very small portion of what we sell.

So they are trying re-classify us as an adult business, even though we don’t feel as though we meet the city’s criteria for being an adult business. And they didn’t think we met the criteria either, back in September. Now, however, they want to force us to move to an ‘adult-zoned’ area, which is of course, only in really bad neighborhoods.

So there you have it. Completely unfair, and we are trying to work through it. But so far, it doesn’t look good. Stay tuned here for more updates.
