This weekend, Ash and I had a classic experience that goes to show exactly why more women don’t visit sex toy shops, or if they do, why they feel uncomfortable there. We decided to make a trek around the city and visit some of the toy stores. We were scouting competition to see if we REALLY wanted to open a sex toy shop.

So we began by making a list of the shops that we knew of around town and then we proceeded to scope each one out and see what they had to offer. One of our first stops was one of the ‘adult superstores’ here in town. Here in town being Atlanta, GA. Originally I wasn’t going to name them out, but now that I think about it, screw it. It was Inserection. They are a chain of about 25 stores all over metro Atlanta. They also sell bongs and crap there too, so it’s a little shady, but this one is in a fairly swanky part of town (Sandy Springs, if you’re familiar with the area).

First thing we notice when we walk in is that there are 3 employees working the counter, all male, one of which has a huge mohawk, one that has multiple piercings, all in his face and another who is holding an aluminum bat and attempting to look menacing. Not the most inviting of scenes, and I can’t see too many women hanging around here, but we’re cool with it. No big deal.

Ash naturally proceeds over to the wall o’ toys and goes to the closest end with the intention of working her way down. The side that she began on was nearest to the checkout counter. Anyway, here comes the good part… the first thing she hears from one of the guys, Mohawk Guy, to be exact, is that he he turns to the other guys and announces to the store “Damn, she went straight to the ASS TOYS!”

Here’s a moment to let that sink in… Not anal mind you… ASS TOYS! Classic. Now we’re easy going and not embarassed about sex AT ALL. She just laughed to herself. She then came to find me and told me what happened and I couldn’t help but laugh out loud. Now needless to say, most women would (and should) have walked right out. We also knew that we weren’t going to buy anything since we sell toys ourselves. But nonetheless it made for an interesting story to tell.

So we just had to share this little excursion with you, and if you’re a lady, hopefully this will set your expectation in case you decide to visit Inserection. I have to say though that the experience made my day. Not only did it reaffirm what we’re all about here at Silver Stars. Our first thought on returning to the car was, ‘Man that’s going to make a great website story!’
